Crime Prevention Ottawa: Safety Starts with Strong Community Spirit
Friday, 05 October 2012
Crime Prevention OttawaHow well do you know your neighbours? It’s an important question because communities where neighbours talk to neighbours are among the safest in Ottawa. Getting to know your neighbours helps build community spirit—and once you have that, you have residents who take pride in their neighbourhood and truly care about the place they call home. That, in turn, creates a greater sense of well-being in the community. Residents feel safe and are safe because their efforts to build a better community tell criminals that they are not welcome in the area.

There are many ways in which your community can come together to create safer environments for everyone who lives there. Here are 5 examples from Crime Prevention Ottawa’s Neighbourhood Toolkit:

Riverside South Badminton Club 2012-2013
Tuesday, 02 October 2012

Riverside South Badminton ClubBadminton is back again in Riverside South for the 2012-2013 season! The Riverside South Badminton Club meets every Tuesday and Friday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at École élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître, 4170 Spratt Road in Riverside South. The Badminton Club, which is sponsored by the Riverside South Community Association, started on September 18th and will run until May 2013. All adults (18+) are welcome to attend regardless of experience.

Come out to socialize with people in your community, burn some calories, have some fun and exchange some friendly competitive banter. You don’t need to bring a partner just a pair of dry indoor running shoes, a racket and a couple of badminton birds.

Tuesday, 02 October 2012

2012 Riverside South Fall Cleanup Thank YouDear 2012 Fall Cleaning the Capital Participants,

The City of Ottawa would like to extend a heartfelt 'thank-you' for your participation in making the 2012 Fall Cleaning the Capital Campaign a huge success! In Riverside South we had 10 volunteers collect 10 bags of garbage from various sites in the community. Many thanks for your dedication to keeping Riverside South and the City of Ottawa clean.

Thanks again to Urbandale and Collautti for their support in providing the large dumpster and for picking up garbage bags around the community that could not be brought back to the dumpster.
