Due to the mild December weather and families with school age kids being busy with parent teacher conferences, Christmas seemed an age away. But the RSCA brought the Christmas cheer out into the open on Saturday, December 5th with the annual RSCA Pancake Breakfast with Santa and Sleigh Rides, kicking off the run up to Christmas.
Click below to read the event recap. Pancake Breakfast Thanks to Moncion’s Independent Grocer and Broadway Bar and Grill, the RSCA’s bevy of hard working volunteers were able to feed 184 adults and 175 Children with sausages and unlimited pancakes. Nearly 10 gallons of Orange punch was consumed as adults, as well as the kids favoured this over coffee! Our Santa goes Green challenge was more of a fizzle than a bang, but thank you to all those that did use the blue and black recycling boxes, allowing us to only have 1.5 bags of garbage. Next year with the green boxes, everything can go in there except for the cutlery so we should practically have no garbage. Prize Draws Thank you to those that brought their own cups and for doing so entered into our prize draws. Congratulations to all the winners: Thank you Al Corace of Royal LePage Team Realty for sponsoring the evening prize draw. We hope to have even more people remember their cups next year! Santa's Grotto A visit to Santa in his grotto, left no doubt that Christmas was on its way. Over 100 portraits were taken with newborns to grandparents sitting on Santa’s lap letting him know what they wanted for Christmas and getting a small gift to take home. Thank you to Laurie & Dan Coveduck of Royal LePage Team Realty for sponsoring our Santa Grotto. Thank you to all of our volunteers, especially Santa Larry and photographer Paul Huppé for the stunning pictures that are adorning Christmas cards this season. All the pictures have been delivered and if anyone wants additional copies, please contact social@riversidesouth.org to make the arrangements.
If anyone is replacing Christmas lights, especially outside white icicle style or an artificial tree stand, or parting with wall decorations please consider passing these onto the Santa Grotto decorating team for next years wonderful display. Kids Crafts If Santa wasn’t enough entertainment, it didn’t stop there as there was an abundance of crafts to covet the kids' creative streaks. Stick Stars were adorned with bows, pompoms and baubles and foam postcards were decorated with Christmas motifs and stickers to make quite the impressive Christmas keepsake ornaments and there were Christmas bracelets for the girls and wooden Hockey characters to colour for the boys as well as an array of Christmas colouring sheets and the opportunity to write a letter to Santa as that final reminder of what should be under the tree this year. Sleigh Rides With the morning under our belt, it was onto the evening activities where Mother Nature smiled upon us with a wonderful mild night in which to enjoy the Sleigh Rides. The pre-registration had its predicted hiccups with families not turning up in time for their scheduled ride as the sleighs were running right on time but everyone was accommodated and with the 2nd sleigh for those that hadn’t pre-registered there was plenty of space so everyone went out with very little wait time and a couple of families even went out twice.
Thank you to the residents of Giant Cedars, Sandy Forest and Cirrus Way for having their lights on for an added sparkle to the night ride, and to our two fabulous sleigh teams, Crystal Cordick of Cerenity Stables and Cec Andrus of Rockfield Farms. These events wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of our sponsors Moncion’s Independent Grocer, Broadway Bar and Grill, and Royal LePage Team Realty as well as Scotiabank whose Riverside South staff dedicate their time and whose financial contribution help pay for the operating costs of these events, including rental of the community centre, sleigh teams, tables and chairs, etc. Thanks also goes out to our RSCA Executive team that organise this event and the dedicated resident volunteers that prove that Riverside South has community spirit as well as Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for a Happy New Year!
