Limebank Road and Earl Armstrong Road Update

I would like to provide residents with an update on the construction taking place on Limebank Road and Earl Armstrong Road. I know these projects are important for residents.

Limebank Road from River Road to Balmoral Drive is scheduled to be completed in October of 2010. This project is moving forward on budget and on schedule.

The stretch of Limebank Road from Balmoral Drive to Spratt Road has recently been opened with lane reductions. One northbound lane and one southbound lane will be open separated by a median, while the outer lanes will remain closed with construction continuing on a retaining wall on the west side of Limebank Road and the Stormwater Management Pond on the east side of Limebank Road. This traffic setup is expected to remain in place until the end of September.

The intersection of Limebank Road and Spratt Road was recently opened as well. This allows for easier access to St. Francis Xavier High School in time for the beginning of the school year.

Residents are also reminded that the stretch of Limebank Road from Spratt Road to Earl Armstrong Road will remain closed until Fall 2011. Although this is a new plan, keeping this stretch of road closed will save the city $400,000 and will allow the project to be accelerated and completed ahead of schedule. I have been in touch with the Riverside South Community Association to discuss the plan to keep this project ahead of schedule.

In addition, construction continues on Earl Armstrong Road from River Road to Limebank Road. This project is ahead of schedule and City engineers hope to open the road in December of 2010, well ahead of the March 2011 deadline. This project was part of the Economic Stimulus Program.

I appreciate the community’s patience as we complete these much-needed projects.

Riverside South Infrastructure Tour

I recently joined City Engineers for a tour of the major infrastructure projects taking place in Riverside South along Limebank Road and Earl Armstrong Road.  I am pleased to report that all of the infrastructure projects are on schedule and on budget.  I know these projects are a priority to residents of Riverside South and I am happy to see the progress on the ground.  Although there may not be visible activity on a regular basis, rest assured that progress is being made and the project is on schedule.

Shoreline Drive and Tewsley Drive Pedestrian Pathway

I was pleased to see that construction has begun on the Shoreline and Tewsley Drive pedestrian pathway. Crews have finished paving the pathway and have advised that it will be ready for use in September. This pedestrian pathway will provide easier access to local transit as well as parks, recreational facilities, and local shopping areas.  This pathway was also completed as part of the Federal Provincial Stimulus Fund.
